My goal is not to dictate to anyone what their teaching philosophy should be. My goal is to encourage all schools and teachers to have some sort of mission statement or larger guiding principles.

In a perfect world, dance education could include strong technique, vocabulary, student centered topics of safety and self-care, and discipline… not to mention higher order thinking skills such as understanding, analyzing, synthesizing, reasoning, creating, etc – all of which the art form of dance embodies. After a few more decades than I care to admit justifying dance in public, private, and post-secondary learning institutions, I am fully equipped to take on anyone who doubts that dance does not produce highly intelligent, inquisitive, vigorous, and healthy people!
