Curriculum Development

Necessary Planning

While no two schools are ever exactly alike, there is no one curriculum that serves the needs of every institution. Therefore, it’s imperative that curriculum be developed by every school based on the best templates they have access to and the specific population of student dancers. The most critical age group to have a defined curriculum for is the very young. It is at this age that a strong foundation is built, without which poor habits develop and weaknesses are amplified.

For a variety of reasons, many private dance schools fail to complete a curriculum and rely instead on current teachers to simply ‘give class’. But I would argue that a well-planned curriculum offers staff, students, and parents the assurance that dancers are getting the finest dance education available. Additionally, it offers the teaching staff a guide to a cohesive course of study.
